Pitch

The song I decided to use is Salaam, by Krept and Konan, which is the second track in their Revenge Is Sweet album. Salaam is an early reminder that their lyrical talent is just as powerful against a slower beat, and the track includes the first of numerous tributes to Cadet, Krept’s cousin who died in a car accident earlier this year. The song is a cue that the stakes in life are high and a sublime tribute to loved ones lost along the way. The song is about the struggles in life and how people have passed along the way even though it might have not ‘been their time’.

I chose this song as it relates to the current situation we're facing as a generation, in terms of the covid-19 pandemic and the high death rate numbers. This song is targeted at an 18-34 age group because it tells the life story of real people and how uncertain events can spring up in life, and we just have to face it and move on as we are the current generation that should be standing strong for the elderly and the dependent.

The song is under an independent label, and therefore appeals to a specific audience. There will be multiple camera angles used and dim lighting, which will help to emphasise on the meaning and emotions the song carries. There will also be the use of different locations and props to help with the narrative.

The song makes reference to both muslim and non muslim characters which helps in the representation of different religious groups, and also credits female characters which brings a sense of equality.

Hip hop/Rap music is a genre that consists of a stylized rhythmic music that commonly accompanies rapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted. Other elements include sampling beats or bass lines from records. While often used to refer solely to rapping, "hip hop" more properly denotes the practice of the entire subculture.
Conventions of hip-hop/rap music videos:
  • There are many low angle shots to exert artists power over audience.
  • Clothes are typically flashy, bling, and obviously about money.
  • Lyrics are normally associated with women and dominance over other artists.
  • Racial slurs are normally used.

With the magazine front cover, I've decided to represent both the main characters with their backs facing each other. One will be in a prayer pose, and the other will be looking up to the sky, both showing sorrowful emotions.

On the double page, there will be an interview with the artists to promote themselves. There will also be a main image and additional images to attract the audience. Details of the availability of the music video will be stated, and some pull-quotes linked to the artists and social media will also be mentioned.
